Ignite® Small Business Start-ups is a social enterprise developed to facilitate small business creation for people from a refugee, migrant background, people with a disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people from other marginalised communities who want to start their own business or expand an existing one.

Our vision is to turn passion into possibility by unleashing the potential of passionate entrepreneurs, to take greater control of their lives through self employment and business creation.

Our Programs

Ignite First

At the end of 2020 Ignite launched in NSW regions of Armidale and Coffs Harbour, building trusting relationships in the Aboriginal community. The program supported over 10 start-ups and employed its first Aboriginal facilitator.

Ignite Regional

In early 2020, Ignite expanded into NSW regions. As a result, Ignite Regional was added as an extension of entrepreneurship support to the whole of community in Coffs Harbour, Armidale and surrounding regions of NSW New England area.

IgniteAbility

IgniteAbility Small Business Start-ups™ is a pilot program established by SSI to facilitate business creation for people with disability who want to establish a small business or expand an existing one.

Bright

In partnership with SSI Ignite, Lendlease created the Bright Programme aimed to connect established and emerging entrepreneurs within the precinct with skilled professionals to fast track success.

Ignite® Canada is a program that helps newcomer entrepreneurs realise their dreams and start a viable business in Canada. The program is a joint initiative between ISSofBC and SSI Australia.

Timeline

2013

Commenced working with refugees & asylum seekers in Sydney

2015

Expanded to include people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds

2016

Expanded to include people living with disability

2017

Expanded to refugee & asylum seekers in Brisbane via Access Community Services

2019

Expanded to new immigrants via ISSofBC, Vancouver, Canada

2020

Expanded to Regional NSW as a whole of community offering

2021

Expanded to the Indigenous community by invitation

2022

Ignite expanded in to East Gippsland, Greater Melbourne and officially launched our Ignite First program.
